Here’s the reason why Google’s AI technology will not be included in the Samsung Galaxy S24 in this particular country.
Samsung will not use Galaxy AI features on its Galaxy S24 lineup in China, instead relying on Chinese tech giant Baidu’s Ernie AI due to Google’s limited presence in the country.
Ernie AI will offer the same Galaxy AI features based on Gemini’s basic models, such as AI-powered real-time call translation, summarization and text format features on the Chinese version of the Galaxy S24 series, reports CNBC.
The Galaxy S24 phones also get a Chinese version of Google’s “Circle to Search” feature. “Now with Ernie’s insight and next-generation capabilities, the updated Samsung Note Assistant can translate content and also condense long content into clear, intelligently organized formats at the touch of a button,” Samsung Electronics China and Baidu said in a statement.
Ernie chatbot is powered by artificial intelligence technology capable of generating human-like responses to user prompts. Ernie 4.0 was released in October. Baidu claims it’s “the most powerful version of the Ernie Foundation model to date.”
“It is greatly improved compared to the online version of Ernie bot, and now it is no worse than GPT-4,” said CEO Robin Li at the “Baidu World 2023” event in October.
The arrival of ChatGPT—and the influx of AL models from US tech giants such as Bard, Gemini, and LLaMA—forced Chinese tech companies to develop their own large language models (LLMs). Baidu developed Ernie Bot and Alibaba Group built its own LLM named Tongyi Qianwen.
